Constantine, who left home when he was 17, became a hair dresser at Elizabeth Arden in London. He started developing hair and skin care products in the small room where he lived. He studied trichology and perfumery and moved to Poole in Dorset. In 1975, he started making cosmetics from a garage in his house.
He along with beauty therapist Elizabeth Weir started a herbal hair and beauty clinic. They started making cosmetics out of natural ingredients. In 1977, Constantine sent a sample of his products to Anita Roddick, whose company Body Shop, known for its natural cosmetics, was becoming popular. She liked the products and placed an order for £1200. This led to the incorporation of Constantine & Weir Plc.
